Raising issues in your workplace can be daunting… but knowing your rights might make it a little easier.
The first thing to know is that your employer has a positive obligation to keep your workplace safe.
This means that where you are complaining about bullying, dangerous work practices, or anything that may cause you harm, your employer should first turn its focus on making the workplace immediately safe for you. This might include removing an alleged aggressor from the workplace so that an investigation can occur.
If you have a complaint in relation to your employment, your employer is also prohibited from taking adverse action against you because you made that complaint.
Adverse action might include dismissing you, demoting you, placing you on a performance plan or anything else that weakens your job security.
If you feel like you are being targeted simply because you made a complaint or raised a concern with your employer, then we can help.
